SARG researchers to present at Alcohol Knowledge Exchange Workshop
Professor John Holmes and Professor Colin Angus are key contributors to the Knowledge Exchange Workshop: Alcohol Evidence in Policy and Practice taking place in Edinburgh this week.
The workshop, being held at the Royal College of Surgeons from 14-16 January 2025, is aimed at professionals working in policy and practice including civil servants, public health professionals, researchers, charities and advocates. It will provide attendees with the latest evidence on alcohol harms, policy research, evidence and practice from world-leading experts.
John Holmes and Colin Angus of the Sheffield Addictions Research Group will lead sessions on:
- Alcohol & Inequalities: Paradoxes, Policies & Popular Myths – exploring the complex relationship between alcohol consumption, social inequalities, and the impact of policies (Colin Angus)
- Understanding, Measuring and Monitoring Alcohol Consumption – examining the latest methods and data for accurately assessing alcohol consumption patterns and trends (John Holmes)
- Alcohol Pricing Policy Options & Effectiveness: Minimum Unit Pricing; Alcohol Duty – looking at the effectiveness of key pricing strategies, including minimum unit pricing and alcohol duty, in reducing alcohol-related harm (John Holmes and Colin Angus)
Professor Holmes will also participate in a roundtable discussion on no- and low-alcohol products, alongside other leading researchers.
The Alcohol Knowledge Exchange Workshop has been organised by the SPECTRUM Consortium in partnership with the NIHR Policy Research Unit in Addictions and the University of Stirling.
